DeLorean automatic antenna replacement #3

Just after the driving season of 2025, I took my car for a drive and discovered that the automatic radio antenna in the rear pontoon wasn't going down anymore and was stuck in the "up" position. I couldn't force it down either.

This antenna had lasted approximately 10 years as I last documented the replacement here in 2016.  That doesn't sound too bad unless you know how little I have driven the car during that time. I'd be lucky if I put 1,000 miles on the car over that decade.

In searching for options, I found that the model I had was likely the best one that would work well in the car.  I found that it was also available on Amazon for around $65, so I went with another Metra 44-PW22B

So out with the old, and in with the new, for the 3rd time in the 15 years that I've owned my DeLorean.

Since the antenna was stuck in the "up" position, I had to basically destroy it to get it to go down, which I was okay with.

I've gotten really good at putting in these antennas, but it is still a very unpleasant job as it requires very awkward positions and being bent over for long periods of time. The worst part is getting the right number of washers on the bracket so that the antenna is as straight as possible.

This new antenna seems to be a bit quieter than the previous model I installed, so let's see how long this new one will last!
